John graduated from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland in 1976 as a Civil Engineer, and thereafter attended the Capernwray Bible School in England for one year. It was during this time that God gave him a vision to establish a Christian Conference Center and Bible School in Malaysia to train, teach and proclaim the message of the risen, living and indwelling Lord Jesus Christ. He then returned to Malaysia and worked as an Engineer, and became a partner of the consulting firm. In 1993, he and his wife (Joyce) together with their daughter (Joni) and son (Johnson) left to study in the seminary at Columbia International University, and graduated with M. Div. (Missions) in 1996. He serves as Director of Capernwray Malaysia, a ministry of the Torchbearers International founded by Major W. Ian Thomas in 1947 in England. He is currently involved in teaching and preaching in various churches with the aim of helping believers to know and discover the Lord Jesus Christ in their lives. His dream and vision of a Torchbearer center became a reality in 2007 after 30 years and has since lived in Harvest Haven ministering and serving with a team of staff.
